I am broken-hearted

On January 3, 2006 I decided to follow Adam Carolla from KROQ (106.7FM), on LoveLine, to a KLSX (97.1 FM Talk). He was starting his morning show The Adam Carolla Show. It took awhile to get used to him in this format, but I stayed on this station and immediately found a new home and a new form of entertainment. Right after TACS, from 10am to 2pm, I discovered Frosty, Heidi & Frank and it was love at first sound. For the past 3 years, these three characters have entertained me endlessly while I was at work, made the day just fly by, and helped me not to take life SO seriously and just enjoy the small things. In this time I feel like I developed a relationship with each one. I got to know the happenings of Frosty's solitary life with his beloved dog Rudy, Heidi's hypocondriatic (sp?) tendencies her relationship with the Italian (her lesbian partner) her loud, unabashed cackle everytime something hilarious was brought up (practically every second) and the daily drama, not to mention endless devotion, of having 5 dogs of every size and breed, Frank's boyish charm and unapoligetic "tell it like it is" attitude while turning on the sentimental side when talking about his daughter Cassie.

Along the way, I picked up other talk shows on the station like the controversial Tom Leykis Show and hilarious Tim Conway, Jr. Show laughing the entire day and through the commuting. I always felt like I was surrounded by entertaining friends throughout the day. And as of Friday, February 20, 2009 at 5 p.m. CBS Radio will switch the format of this station (KLSX 97.1 FM TALK) to Top 40. That's it. Everybody is gone. And Los Angeles will again have shitty radio...who needs ANOTHER top 40. All of these guys I used to listen to were at the top (even #1) of their ratings levels, but due to the economic condition cutbacks were made and all of these great talk shows are gone.
So now I sit here listening to last of The Adam Carolla Show, waiting for the final Frosty, Heidi & Frank show (they will surely get hammered today!) and ending with the Tom Leykis Show at 5 p.m. Come Monday morning I guess I can return to KROQ's Kevin & Bean in the morning, but what I will do from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is unknown...I guess I'll actually have to work while at work. No, but really I guess I can listen to NPR, but they aren't really known for the chuckles. All I can say is I really feel like I'm losing a friend today and can't wait until Frosty, Heidi & Frank get back on the air so I can be entertained.

Of celebrations and such...

So it's the day after Valentine's Day and I thought it would be a good time to dedicate some time to my blog and make a promise to contribute to it. I was going to do this yesterday, but I decided it was best not to. Otherwise, my post would have been about the silliness of the "holiday" and what a shame it is to need a day like that to appreciate your significant other, but I digress...
*******
There are better things to get worked up about today...like my best friend, Renee's, birthday. Well technically it was her birthday on the 9th, but we're celebrating today. We are going to join the
Los Angeles Knitting Meetup Group at Le Pain Quotidien in WeHo. Hopefully we meet some really nice people and get alot of knitting done. I can't wait for her to open her gifts because one of the gifts is t-shirt with a really great graphic of a knitter and the ball of yarn extends all the way to the bottom of the shirt. It was designed by a fellow knitter on Ravelry that goes by the name Verabee.

On another note, I discovered
Etsy while I was multi-tasking (code: screwing around at work and surfing the web) a couple days ago and I can't stop looking at the stuff everyone out there is creating. I jumped the gun and decided to open up my own Etsy shop even though I don't really have anything to sell right now, but it's great to know this is available. Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to sell my crafty stuff, even though I was told by family how silly that was, and now I can. I think having my own 'shop' will be exactly what I need to bring out that creative kid again.

BUSY WEEKEND...

This weekend was soooooo much fun even though I did so much...anyway it's good for me I'm usually so sedentary. So Saturday I went to the opera AGAIN I saw the LA Opera's Don Giovanni. And La Boheme last weekend was a great beginning to my opera-going experiences (something I dreamt about since I was a little girl...don't ask I always knew I would love the opera) it was everything I expected the singers were fantastic, the set, lighting, & costumes all together made for a memorable experience. And although Don Giovanni was great and it is one of the best operas it was a very contemporary production, which for my taste was a bit dissappointing. Much applause was heard for the singers who played the parts of Don Ottavio (Charles Castronovo) & Donna Anna (Alexandria Deshorties) their voices were definitely the strongest and I was able to actually "feel" the emotion. Unfortunately, I'm not able to say the same for the voice of Don Giovanni (Erwin Schrott). He wasn't horrible, actually he is a good performer, but I just wasn't feeling as strong a voice as I did with Charles Castronovo. As far as the set I felt like I was at a Las Vegas show...I can appreciate contemporary art, but I envisioned tradition when I went to the opera.

As far as my knitting, I'm going back to the basics. I'm knitting scarves in a mad rush for the family!!! These scarves are going into gift boxes with other gifts so they really are the missing piece to the puzzle and I'm so anxious to get these boxes filled, sealed, and ready for Christmas Day. My goal for next year is to make stuff for the people I love...NOT JUST SCARVES. So this is something that I will have to work at year-round.

And finally, I am crazy into the holiday spirit...I began my holiday baking last night @ 8pm. I was able to complete Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls and I'm so proud of myself because they look so professional. I used paraffin wax in the chocolate covering and that's why they look so glossy like See's Candy chocolate...THEY'RE DELISH! Tonight I'm making Gingerbread Cookies and making my own Royal Icing to paint the cookies with.

A FIRST OF MANY...

...my first blog. My first post. My first time to the opera.

What took me so long?!?!?!?!

PERFECTIONISM...my mortal enemy. I always wanted the "perfect" moment to come along so I could do the things I always dreamt or thought of doing or trying.

'DOWN WITH PERFECTIONISM!' I say...well, it will probably take some time to fight off this perfectionism addiction I have, but until then I'll have fun doing it. And it starts with this my first time going to the opera today. I will be seeing La Boheme @ the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, CA. It's a crisp, cold, windy day with a bright blue sky and a few whispy clouds...it's going to be so much fun dressing up and going to the theatre!

And of course, my other new found 'thing'...this blog...I was looking around and found the blogs of other knitters & crafters and was inspired to create my own. I really like that you can share your 'stuff' and learn from others that you don't even know across the nation...across the world! And since I have so many things going on at once I can keep track of it all and organize it here. I realized while going to other blogs that all of the knitters & crafters had pics of their projects...I've completed so many and have no memories of them...bummer. As soon as I finish my next project I will post the pic here and will have it forever...I hope.
